Change It! Multiplication With Decimals - Set 2

Explanation:

Decimals can always be matched to an equivalent fraction.  The decimal 0.2 has the fractional equivalents of 2/10 and 1/5.  Converting decimals to a fraction may make it easier to accomplish a problem "in your head".  You are to look at the decimal in the problem and "Change it!"

Example(s):

0.2 * 5,000    0.2 = 2/10 = 1/5    Change it!  to 1/5 of 5,000 which is 1,000.  Easy!

0.6 * 80        0.6 = 6/10              Change It!  to 6/10 * 80.  Since 1/10 of 80 = 8, then 6/10 of 80 = 48. Easy!

0.8 * 0.04     0.8 = 8/10              Change it!  to 8/10 * 0.04.   Since 1/10 of 0.04 = 0.004, then 8/10 = 0.032.  Easy!

Directions:

"Change" a decimal in the problem to a fractional equivalent so that the problem may be done as mental math.  Strive to be able to accomplish the problems with ease and then strive to increase your speed!  Good luck and enjoy the challenge!
