Order of Operations - Set 1

Explanation:

There are rules for the "order of operations" that are followed around the world. "Operations" refers to addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, use of exponents and the use of parentheses. The rules are summed up by the letters PEMDAS, which stands for the order of priority of the operations. "P" and "E" refers to the highest priorities of "parentheses" and "exponents". "M" and "D" refers to the next highest priorities of "multiplication" and "division". The "A" and "S" refer to the lowest priorities of "addition" and "subtraction".

Example(s):

8 + (5² + 8 * 3) = 8 + (25 + 8 * 3) = 8 + (25 + 24) = 8 + 49 = 57

5 * 30 - 10 ÷ 2 = 150 - 5 = 145

4² + (3 + 2 * 4)² = 16 + (3 + 8)² = 16 + 11² = 16 + 121 = 137

Directions:

For each problem in this problem set you need to follow the rules indicated by the acronym PEMDAS. Be careful. Strive to be able to accomplish the problems with ease and then strive for increasing your speed. Good luck and enjoy the challenge!
